Ogilvy and Mather was founded in 1948, by David Ogilvy and Edmund Mather. David Ogilvy didn’t study advertising in college, and in fact dropped out of his university on Edinburgh. He had never thought about advertising as a career path until he got to the United States, and thank goodness he did. Without Ogilvy and Mather in the world we wouldn’t have some of the best advertisements that are out there today.
Our visit to Ogilvy was very informing and entertaining. Our contact, David Fowler, was very hospitable and nice while showing us around the office space. He took us to the production studio and allowed us to see some of the editing bays. The office itself was set up in a way that was very open and inclusive.
While we sat down in the meeting room to listen to the guest speakers, Lilia Valladares – David’s assistant, handed out baseball caps with the Ogilvy logo placed on top. We were all very pleased to have gotten swag form the agency that rules the world of advertising.
We got to speak with Rodrigo Moran about all the effort he has put into the Refugee Nation campaign. This campaign is for the refugees around the world who have come together to create their own nation. They even put a team together to compete in the last Olympics. The flag they have created resembles a life vest, which is the national symbol for refugees. He also spoke to us about his efforts with “Type with Pride,” the new campaign that ties in with Gay Pride.
Overall the visit was very helpful and interesting. We are excited to see all of the new work that comes out of their agency and look forward to maybe one day working with them.
