Tonight was quite an interesting one. After a full day of agency visits the group headed down to an off broadway play, way off. Playing was Avenue Q, a funny story about a young college graduate and his move to the big city. Dr. B did a great job picking a play that resonated with just about all of us. The play used puppets that closely resembled muppets to portray the stages of life someone fresh out of college would experience when moving to a new city.
It started out with a young man named Princeton looking for an apartment in manhattan and having to eventually settle on something very far from what he expected because everything is so expensive. When he moves in he meets several new people and starts to get to know them and the people in his building. As he is meeting the others in his building he meets Kate Monster who he starts to develop a crush on.
The play follows the two through their developing relationship and all of its ups and downs. In the mix they introduce a second female character that becomes of interest to Princeton, and you get to see how the existing relationship plays out with a new female character.
The play has several cheeky messages that related directly to us as college students and all in all the play was surprisingly fantastic. Coming out of the theater makes you think about your own path in life and what we might be able to expect. Dr. B definitely never lets us down and this play was no exception, the next time you're in New York this play needs to be at the top of your list.
